Apostille is a special type of document verification process that proves the validity of a document. This process is required to use the document internationally. The Apostille consists of a stamp that certifies the authenticity of a public document issued in one State to be presented and recognized in another State.  It was introduced by the Hague Apostille Convention of 1961. Argentina, Norway and Iceland signed the Convention. (All member countries of the Convention)

Norwegian and Icelandic public documents must be legalized with an "Apostille" issued by the authority of the country that issued the document in order to be recognized in Argentina.

The Apostille legalization process is carried out without the involvement of the Embassy.

Legalization with Apostille is only applicable to public documents. A public document is considered to be any document issued by a state or official authority (such as civil status certificates, criminal background checks, notarial deeds and certifications of signatures, court rulings, official certifications of any kind issued by government agencies, diplomas from public institutions, etc.).

Translations into Spanish:

In addition to legalization or Apostille certification, most documents must also be translated into Spanish by a certified official translator after being legalized with the Apostille, in order to be considered valid in Argentina. If the translation is carried out by an authorized translator in Iceland or Norway, both the original document and the translation must bear the Apostille.
