Argentine sculptor Laura Marcos unveiled her work carved in larvikite, Norway’s characteristic national stone. After being selected as one of eight artists from 160 applicants, Marcos spent a month shaping the stone into a giant crab, which has now been incorporated into the Stålaker sculpture park.

The results of the 22nd edition of the Larvikite Kunstfelt Stålaker International Symposium—sponsored by the Lundhs A quarries—were inaugurated on 1 August 2026 in Stålaker, featuring eight new sculptures by international artists, including Marcos’ crab.

The artist explained that her work is inspired by the kongekrabbe, the king crab of northern Norway, whose presence in the region currently generates intense debates regarding ecological impact, local economies, and resource management.

The new Argentine artwork can be visited at the Stålaker Kunstfelt Sculpture Park, with free and open admission.
