THE EFTA-MERCOSUR AGREEMENT HAS BEEN SIGNED

Norway’s Minister of Industry and Trade, Cecilie Myrseth; Iceland’s Minister of Innovation, Logi Már Einarsson; Argentine Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein; and representatives from Brazil, Uruguay, Paraguay, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein signed on September 16th 2025 in Rio de Janeiro, the Free Trade Agreement taking a major step toward the creation of a Free Trade Zone encompassing nearly 300 million people.

The agreement will foster a better business climate and open up new commercial opportunities. It will also provide greater access to markets. Once ratified by one country from each bloc, it will come into effect for the ratifying countries. All member states are expected to ratify it by 2026.

Congratulations to the negotiators and the eight governments who believed in this important tool for promoting economic relations and peace among our nations!
